Symptoms Of Transmission Problem

It is the transmission that allows the power from the engine to move via the gears and the driveshaft in order move the wheels. The transmission can be automatic or manual depending on what kind of car you are driving. While transmission problems are expensive to repair, knowing the various symptoms of a transmission problem will allow you to rectify the problem immediately before more damage is done.

Some of the symptoms of transmission problems are listed below.

One of the most common symptoms of a transmission problem is leakage of transmission fluid. This fluid will be visible on the ground where the car is parked. It will be reddish in color and signifies a leak. If you notice this, make sure that you add transmission fluid everyday till the leak is fixed.

If the transmission fluid is reddish in color, then it signifies that the fluid is clean. However, if the color is dark and it appears to be sticky, it is time to change the fluid. Also, when transmission fluid goes bad, it gives out a bad smell. This smell is similar to that of burning oil.

If your transmission is failing or deteriorating with time, you will notice sounds coming when you change gears. The notice will be more apparent when you increase or decrease the speed. In a manual transmission car, the transmission will have a grinding sound along with a rattling sound and shaking.

If you are driving an automatic transmission car, when you change the gear from drive to reverse, it should happen without any delay. However, if you notice a delay, then there is a problem with the transmission.
